Fortaleza Beach is a complete package for visitors. The beach, with its long stretch of sand, offers both restaurants and tranquil spots with vegetation providing shade for tourists. The sea is calm, clean, and, as a bonus, features natural pools. A delightful place to spend the day with the whole family. Fortaleza Beach also stands out for being part of the Seven Beaches Trail circuit. It's where the trail that starts at Lagoinha Beach and passes through beaches like Cedro and Bonete ends (or begins).
The sea at Fortaleza is the highlight of this beach. There are no waves in the area, and the depth is ideal for going with children. Although the entire beach is delightful for swimming, the real star of this sea is the natural pool that forms on the right side, amidst the rocks and vegetation at the end of the sandy strip. It's common to see families having fun among the abundant small fish there. Bring a snorkel mask.
Another good reason to visit Praia da Fortaleza is access to the Seven Beaches Trail, which passes by Pontão da Fortaleza (a large rocky point with a beautiful view) and seven beaches: Praia do Cedro; Praia Deserto; Praia Grande do Bonete; Praia do Bonete; Praia do Peres; Praia do Oeste; and Praia da Fortaleza itself. It's a 10 km trail of beautiful scenery and vegetation to the end of the trail at Praia da Lagoinha. Those who wish to visit the beaches without hiking can hire a boat to make the journey.
The Fortress is located at the end of the road that leads to several other beaches, so it's recommended as a stop at the end of your tour. Ideally, you should dedicate the whole day to exploring the entire region, which also includes Praia Dura, Praia Vermelha do Sul, Praia do Costa, and Praia Brava da Fortaleza. Along the way, don't forget to stop at the viewpoints for photos.
How to get to Fortaleza Beach
Fortaleza Beach is located in the south of Ubatuba, after Brava da Fortaleza Beach. The route from the city center begins on BR-101 (Rod. Gov. Mario Covas or Rio-Santos) and then on Avenida Uniflora (entrance to Praia Dura). Upon arriving at Fortaleza Beach, it will be possible to park in private spaces (cost between R$ 30 and R$ 60) or on the street (no metered parking zone, but with few spaces).
